Isla de Creepyhead

The English poet John Donne said that no man is an island . . . but there are at least solitary dominions, with their far frontiers and borderlands, where there are fences without gates, and walls without doors.

The Pink Floyd lyrics may claim that "It's a sin that somehow/light is tuning to shadow/and casting its shroud/over all we have known..." but that doesn't mean that it is wrong to be "turning away". I find myself fine with The Turning Away; it seems perfectly alright to embrace the darkness, with "a coldness inside", that it will be enough to merely "stand and stare".
This is not for me a world to share.

To sail the icy sunless seas, hark! the tide is at flood and upon the full current we float!
Let us toward the Endless Wall of Night fare, the moon and stars shine down no more upon us.

"If you want a safe compass to guide you through life, and to banish all doubt as to the right way of looking at it, you cannot do better than accustom yourself to regard this world as a penitentiary, a sort of penal colony.
Amongst the evils of a penal colony is the company of those imprisoned in it."

- Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
